Life in Austin
There’s a reason Austin is the fastest growing city in the U.S., why UT Austin is a top-ranked Tier 1 research institution, and why our College of Education is consistently ranked one of the best in the country.
It’s because what starts here changes world.
Live Music Capital of the World
Austin’s claim to fame was issued due to its impressive number of live music venues per capita, and still holds true today. Along with a roster of live acts hosted around the city nightly, Austin also boasts several musical festivals throughout the year. Highlights include:
- SXSW - Held in March, this city-wide festival brings together a community of musicians, artists, educators and tech professionals to offer an insight into arts and innovation.
- Austin City Limits - This two-weekend music festival brings together the best of Austin’s food, community and culture in the beautiful Zilker Park.
- Sound on Sound Fest - A relatively new music festival held just outside of Austin in Sherwood Forest in November.
The Great Outdoors
Even though UT is located in the heart of Austin, there are many ways to get away and explore nature. Whether it be finding a bike or hike trail on Austin’s Greenbelt, kayaking or paddle boarding on Lady Bird Lake or picnicking in Zilker Park, there are endless ways to explore Austin outdoors.
There are so many reasons to love Austin it’s impossible to list them all. We think you’ll enjoy checking out all the things to do, our excellent transportation options, and why snowbirds flock to sunny Longhorn country.
Life at UT
The College of Education is located in the George I. Sanchez Building near the corner of Martin Luther King Blvd. and Congress Ave. While UT is very much a part of metropolitan Austin, our historic main campus is an oasis of walkable paths, shady study spots, and traditional university charm. Plan a visit, take a virtual tour, and learn more about the famous 40 acres!
Finding your Niche
With five departments covering a broad area of modern education, it will be easy to match with a program that fits your interests and career goals. There are several degree programs that offer bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. We also offer a teacher certification program that allows you to become a teacher in the state of Texas.
Whether you’re looking to become a hands-on educator or participate in research and studies aimed at improving the ways we live and learn, there is no shortage of opportunity.
There are also several student organizations and clubs that promote education outside of the classroom.
