Alex is a first-generation, gay, Latino doctoral student in the Program in Higher Education Leadership (PHEL). After serving with Advise TX (an AmeriCorps program), Alex knew he needed to be on the higher-education side to retain and graduate students. As a graduate student at Texas State University, Alex received the Graduate Assistant of the Year Award. He currently works as the Senior Program Coordinator for UT for Me – Powered by Dell Scholars, a program dedicated to helping Pell-eligible students navigate and address persistence barriers at UT Austin. His work experience influenced his drive to impact the decision-making process and advocate for historically underrepresented college students.

His research interests include the intersection of Latinx culture and sexuality identity development of college students, especially identity exploration and acceptance, and the impact of role modeling on that process. Alex is honored to take one final lap as a doctoral student at the institution that started it all for him – The University of Texas at Austin.
