Educational Leadership & Policy

M.A. in Political Science, American University, 2001
B.A. in Political Science/Journalism and Mass Communications (double major), University of New Mexico, 1996

Chris Cervini is a graduate student in the University of Texas at Austin’s College of Education and is working toward an Executive Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy. He is the first in his family to attend college and is currently Associate Vice President for Community and Public Affairs at Austin Community College (ACC). He has worked at ACC since late 2015.

Before embarking on a path in higher-education leadership, Cervini had a career in politics and public policy, serving as Chief of Staff to the Lieutenant Governor of New Mexico from 2002-2006. He also served as a Vice President at a Western regional public-affairs and strategic-communications firm, and in a senior communications role for a large healthcare system. Cervini believes higher education is the best strategy for helping people achieve social mobility in a society that is increasingly imperiled by rising inequality and decreasing public investment in higher education.
