Dan (he/him) is a doctoral student in the Educational Policy and Planning Program. Inspired by his time as a classroom teacher, his research interests broadly examine school choice movements nationwide and the influence of politics on education policy. He is especially interested in the ongoing privatization and religionization of public education through policy measures such as vouchers, education savings accounts (ESAs), and tax credits. He also seeks to understand the role of parental rights in shaping how we think about public education.
Dan earned his B.S. in Secondary Education from Kansas State University with an emphasis in social studies. Before UT, Dan taught middle school English and social studies in private and public schools for five years. While teaching, he earned his Ed.M. in Educational Policy, Organization, and Leadership from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dan received the Decentralized Graduate Recruitment Fellowship to support his studies at the University of Texas at Austin.
