Gabriel Martinez is a second year masters student in the Education Policy and Planning program in the Department of Education Leadership and Policy. His research interests include reviewing the socio-economic factors that impact particularly young Latino men within the educational pipeline, as well as the effects of community organizing and mentorship. During his masters program, Gabriel worked as a Graduate Assistant for Project MALES (Mentoring to Achieve Latino Educational Success) a research based initiative focused on supporting young men of color through culturally responsive pedagogy within the Austin area. Throughout the 88th Texas Legislative Session, Gabriel serves as a Gregory Luna Scholar Fellow, a program administered by the Senate Hispanic Research Council designed to provide individuals the opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals and governmental officials at the Texas state capital.

Gabriel received his Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas State University and attained his associates degree in K-12 education through Austin Community College. He is passionate about education related issues and actively follows state and federal politics.
