Isiana Rendón Escárcega is a doctoral student in the Educational Policy and Planning program at the University of Texas at Austin. After receiving a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rice University, Isiana decided to forego working in the industry to pursue a career in education. Before coming to UT, she was the Computer Science Track Leader at a Houston ISD high school. She is currently a Graduate Assistant in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Advising Office at UT. Isiana earned her M.Ed. in educational administration from the University of Houston where she was focused on issues of urban equity and access. Her current research interests are centered on teacher labor markets choices. Especially how the distribution of power and leadership within school organizational structures affects retention and professionalization.While at UT Isiana has received a Graduate School Fellowship and a Texas New Scholar Fellowship. Isiana is also a Gates Millennium Scholar.
