Justin was born in Austin, Texas but has also lived in Minnesota, North Carolina, and studied abroad in Wales. In 2003 he received a B.A. in history with a minor in political science from Texas Lutheran University.

Working in public education since 2005 he has primarily taught 7th grade Texas History and 8th grade US History, but also has experience as a Special Programs teacher working with SPED and ELL students.

He began his career in public education in Alpine, a small town in the Big Bend region of Texas. While there he also earned a M.Ed. in School Administration from Sul Ross State University. Later, he taught in Anderson, a small town in East Texas and later at Wayside Schools, a public charter school in South Austin. Currently, he works at Coupland ISD, a small K-8 district east of Austin.

His free time is spent mostly with his wife, and two children where they live in a tiny house on the family farm. He enjoys playing dominos, and being outdoors. After graduation his family plans to walk the full-length of the Wales Coastal Path.
