Teacher Certification Programs for Graduate Students

The University of Texas at Austin offers several options for you to earn a master’s degree and teacher certification at the same time. These programs are for students who hold a bachelor’s degree but do not have their teacher certification.

You will take courses that lead to a master’s degree while also completing a Professional Development Sequence (PDS). The PDS is a teacher preparation program that includes fieldwork, observations, and student teaching. You will also have to pass teacher certification exams administered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

Students who have earned their bachelor degree from a college or university in a country other than the United States will need to have their transcripts evaluated and should speak to a program advisor before applying. Additional coursework may be required. International students must meet TEA-required TOEFL exam cut-off scores prior to admission to the PDS.
