Two College of Education faculty members recently received nearly $150,000 in funding for their innovative projects from the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) and the Provost’s Office.
The projects were funded through the inaugural Associate Professor Experimental, an invitation-only internal funding and networking initiative designed to instill confidence in associate professors and inspire cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Faculty were given 24-hours to join forces to create a three-page, internal funding proposal to be reviewed and potentially accepted for funding by the OVPR.
Educational Psychology Associate Professor Delida Sanchez teamed with School of Nursing’s Karen Johnson and School of Social Work’s Yessenia Castro to create A 360 Analysis of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) Use Among Adolescents. They proposed to identify factors that account for elevated rates of ENDS use among Latinx adolescents.
Special Education Associate Professor Sarah Powell partnered with Vernita Gordon from the Department of Physics to propose STEM Majors Reading STEM with Preschoolers: Improving Outcomes for All. The project will work with undergraduate STEM majors to build foundational knowledge of mathematics and science in preschoolers through STEM-focused activities.
