Alexis D. George (she/her) is a current doctoral student in the Program in Higher Education Leadership and Policy (PHELP) at The University of Texas at Austin. Her interests lie at the intersection of politics and higher education, with a focus on how political ideology and legislative action impact higher education institutions. With a combined passion for history, civics, and postsecondary education, her current research agenda examines how legislative policy has historically been utilized to challenge the legitimacy of tertiary education and reconstruct higher education institutions to serve authoritarian political agendas.
Alexis is a seasoned student affairs professional with over a decade of experience in higher education administration. Her career spans roles in academic program coordination, student success initiatives, campus inclusion and belonging, and academic advising. She currently serves as the Assistant Director of Student Affairs for Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston MBA students at the McCombs School of Business, where she manages operations, student engagement, and strategic planning for working professional MBA students in the DFW and Houston markets.
Her dedication to service extends beyond the university through active involvement in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Junior League of Austin, and serving as an election judge for the Travis County Clerks Election Division. She has also served on the executive board of the Texas Exes Black Alumni Network.
Alexis hails from Houston, TX and holds a Masters in Higher Education from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelors in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin. A fourth-generation college student and proud Texan, Alexis is pursuing doctoral studies to explore the politicization of higher education and advocate for institutional integrity.
