The George I Sánchez Building Plaza transformation reflects a bold vision for the future of our college. The reimagined space aims to create a vibrant, student-centered environment where art, learning and community converge. Serving as a welcoming space for connection, collaboration and inspiration, the plaza will celebrate both the college’s history and its future.

Landmarks Installation: Celebrating Art and Legacy

Howardena Pindell’s Autobiography: Circles brings a new Landmarks public art installation to the Sánchez Building. The striking glass installation, her first public art commission in Texas, honors Pindell’s legacy as an artist, activist and educator. The work provides a permanent, inspiring presence that celebrates creativity and invites reflection for students, faculty and visitors alike.

Plaza Revitalization

The Sánchez Building Plaza is being reimagined into a dynamic space for learning and community. The renovations will include accessible pathways, tiered seating, outdoor classrooms, vibrant gardens and the Pamela and David Ott Pavilion and Gardens. The design preserves the iconic live oak trees and incorporates sustainable landscaping, creating a beautiful, functional environment for generations to enjoy.
