Lucas Horton is the director of the Office of Instructional Innovation. He holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Learning Technologies. His interests include the application of web and interactive multimedia technologies to support face-to-face, blended, and online instruction. Before joining the Office of Instructional Innovation, he spent eight years as a project manager and program manager with the Center for Teaching and Learning at UT-Austin where he supported faculty across the campus in applying instructional technologies. His research focuses on the design and implementation of web-based learning environments and technology support for complex problem solving.
Karen French is the associate director of the Office of Instructional Innovation. She holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Instructional Technology and a master's degree in Anthropology. She is also a certified teacher and taught high school Latin for seven years. Before joining the Office of Instructional Innovation, she worked as a facilitator in the WINGS program, an online mentoring program for new teachers. Her dissertation research focused on the role of reflection in electronic discourse and the online mentoring of novice teachers. Karen's professional interests center on training university faculty to integrate technology into instruction.
Rui Zeng is an instructional designer in the Office of Instructional Innovation. She holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology and an M.S. in Educational Technology. Rui has been working in higher education for over 10 years on instructional design, project management, faculty professional development, and distance education management. Her professional interests include technology integration in classroom and online learning environments and instructional design, development, and evaluation.
Carmen Erdie is the interactive media developer in the Office of Instructional Innovation. She has a master’s degree in Interactive Media from Elon University. She spent her time at Elon designing, testing, and building websites and games. Her academic focus was educational gaming in history/ social studies class, she completed her master’s degree by building a WWII educational game, The Spy. Her professional interests include user interface design, web development, and emerging technologies.
