How to Apply (Graduate Programs)

Department of Special Education

The Department of Special Education seeks a diverse student body that is academically well-prepared for graduate school, committed to the development of new knowledge, and interested in improving professional practice. Since interest in special education as an area of study and a profession continues to grow, competition for admission is keen. In reviewing applications for admission, our faculty considers all sources of information:

  • Previous academic preparation
  • Grade point average (GPA)
  • Recommendations
  • Evidence that an applicant’s background, interests, and goals are compatible with those of the area of specialization to which they are applying.

Application Deadlines

Doctoral Programs: For best consideration for financial support, applicants are encouraged to submit their materials by December 1. Applications received after that date will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and considered as funding and space remain available.

Master’s Programs: Master’s applications are considered on an ongoing basis. Financial support may be provided pending applicant qualifications and funding availability.

Applications for Fall 2026 are still being accepted for all programs. The application period for Fall 2027 will open next August.
