Getting Cardiac Rehab Patients to Stand Before They Walk: The Importance of Non-Aerobic Exercise Interventions to Address Frailty
Join the College of Education’s Department of Kinesiology and Health Education for a McCraw Lecture presented by Cemal Ozemek, Ph.D., ACSM-CEP, FACSM, FAACVPR, FCEPA, clinical associate professor, director and professional doctor of the CEP Program in the department of physical therapy at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. Ozemek will review how the traditional cardiac rehabilitation model emphasizes performing progressively greater volumes of aerobic activity and has consistently demonstrated numerous physiologic, functional and psychosocial benefits in the average participant. However, performing the required amount of aerobic exercise can be challenging for participants with physical frailty, which may result in suboptimal outcomes. This presentation will highlight the relevance of physical frailty, its screening methods, and discuss the efficacy of non-aerobic exercise interventions on reversing physical frailty.
All are welcome to attend.
