Hurricane Maria collided the worlds of an already established pattern of economic migration with the trauma and unique needs of a community displaced by a disaster. With a backdrop of an already established and growing Hispanic community, Orlando saw not only a wave of migration from Puerto Rico but concurrently migration caused by political turmoil in Venezuela.
