Hayoung Donnelly

Dr. Hayoung Donnelly is an Assistant Professor in the Counseling Psychology Program within the Department of Educational Psychology. Through her research and teaching, she aims to 1) amplify the voices of adolescents and young adults struggling with suicidal ideation and mental health, 2) highlight their strengths, reasons for living, and resilience, and 3) promote social and relational support across national and international contexts. Her methodological expertise includes narrative-driven and explainable AI development, unsupervised machine learning, data mining and harmonization, and latent variable analysis.

Before joining UT Austin, Dr. Donnelly was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Psychiatry and the Institute for Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pennsylvania. She also worked at the National Youth Policy Institute of Korea and completed a research internship at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. She currently serves as a co-chair of the Evaluation Committee for the Early Career Preventionist Network of the Society for Prevention Research and is a committee member of the Health and Healthcare Equity Working Group at the American Medical Informatics Association.
