Dr. Fitzgerald received her B.A. in Government from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Sport Management from The Ohio State University. After teaching at the University of Missouri, she first joined the faculty at the University of Texas at Austin in 1992 and served as the Sport Management Program Coordinator from 1994 to 2001. She was co-principal investigator for a 4 year marketing research and planning project for the national governing body of the Olympic sport of curling (USCA), and for a 2 year project for the Texas Section of the United States Tennis Association (USTA). Both projects focused on collecting and analyzing marketing research data, developing participant recruitment and retention strategies, creating program evaluation tools, and consulting on sponsorship solicitation. She has also directed strategic planning, economic impact, and marketing research projects on behalf of the San Antonio Sports Foundation. She was awarded the University of Texas Excellence in Teaching Award from the Texas Exes Alumni Association and presented by former University of Texas President Powers. She also received the Sport and Recreation Law Association (SRLA) Honor Award that is presented to an individual who has given outstanding service to the Association.
