The Hook ’Em Here Paid Internship program offers exciting and enriching opportunities for undergraduate students interested in education, health and youth and community studies at the College of Education. We now offer two dynamic paid internships that provide students with valuable, hands-on experiences, practical skills and professional insights that will shape your future careers.
Hook ’Em Here Harlingen

Location: Rio Grande Valley
Eligibility: Must be a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year student enrolled in a Teacher Preparation Program or Youth & Community Studies.
Jump into a transformative, hands-on experience in the culturally rich Rio Grande Valley. The HEHH Internship places you at the center of education and community impact, working directly with students, educators, and leaders from Harlingen CISD.
What You’ll Do
- Lead academic and enrichment activities for students in real-world educational settings
- Build meaningful relationships with mentors, educators and community leaders
- Strengthen your professional skills in classroom management, community engagement and cross-cultural communication
- Volunteer with United Way partner nonprofits
- Explore the vibrant local community through curated evening and weekend activities
Hook ’Em Here Central Texas

Location: Austin, Texas
Eligibility: Open to all 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year students in the College of Education.
In partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area (BGCAA), this immersive internship offers COE majors the chance to work directly with elementary and middle-school youth in a summer camp setting.
What You’ll Do
- Provide academic support, mentorship and program facilitation
- Build youth engagement skills in real-world settings
- Work closely with a BGCAA program coordinator offering professional development and instructional tools
- Explore Central Texas through visits to local heritage sites, museums and community events
Internship Details & Eligibility
Program Overview
- 15 students will be selected for each internship program (Hook ’Em Here: Harlingen and Hook ’Em Here: Central Texas).
- In addition to receiving a salary, students in both programs will receive a $2,000 Dean’s Community Service Award stipend to cover associated travel, housing, meals and other costs.
- These internships are stand-alone experiences and do not replace any internship required by your major.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate in the College of Education
- Must have second-year standing or higher and not be graduating before May 2026
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Must be available to live and work in Harlingen or Central Texas during Summer Session I
