Impacting Students & Classrooms
Serving Texas
The College of Education is committed to helping every Texas student thrive at every stage of their educational journey—from early childhood and K–12 classrooms to college and beyond. Through rigorous research, innovative teaching and community-centered partnerships, our programs prepare educators, leaders and researchers to improve learning outcomes for students of all ages.
Across Texas, we invest in programs that directly support students, strengthen schools and elevate the educator workforce. Our student‑impact initiatives connect university expertise with community needs, ensuring every learner has access to high‑quality, evidence‑based educational support. From mentorship and teacher preparation to community college engagement and public‑school partnerships, these efforts create meaningful, measurable change in classrooms statewide.
Collectively, these programs—including the Center for Community College Student Engagement (CCCSE), Hook ’Em Here internships, the Institute for Public School Initiatives (IPSI), the Longhorns in Residence teacher residency, UT’s PK–12 public schools, Project MALES mentoring and the statewide THRIVE teacher support network—demonstrate the College’s commitment to expanding opportunity and improving student success across Texas.

Center for Community College Student Engagement (CCCSE)
CCCSE is a research initiative that supports institutions and policymakers in enhancing community college learning through information and data that improves student outcomes.

Hook ‘Em Here
The Hook ’Em Here program offers exciting and enriching summer opportunities for College of Education undergraduate students to serve and learn in Texas communities. These paid summer internships, offered in partnership with Harlingen CISD and The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Austin Area, provide interns with hands on experience supporting youth in a school or nonprofit setting under the guidance of a mentor.

The Institute for Public School Initiatives (IPSI)
IPSI is dedicated to supporting public schools and promoting student success from preschool to high school by providing resources and guidance that help students prepare for post-secondary education and offering programs that promote parental engagement.

Longhorns in Residence
This one-year graduate certificate and teacher preparation program integrates fieldwork and coursework through online summer classes followed by a paid, full-time teacher residency program in partnership with Austin-area school districts.

PK-12 Public Schools
The College of Education is the home of UT Elementary School, UT Charter School and UT High School. These public schools educate thousands of students annually while collaborating with college faculty on research, training initiatives and the implementation of evidence-based practices that advance teaching and learning.

Project MALES
Now housed in the College of Education, the Project MALES Student Mentoring Program is a research institute dedicated to exploring the education experiences of Latino males. The program collaborates with local schools and communities to advance educational outcomes.

Texas Education THRIVE
The THRIVE mentorship program provides engagement, support, professional development and networking resources in school districts across Texas to help transform early- and mid-career teachers into effective and long-term educators.
