Angela Maria Villamizar is a 4th year doctoral student at the University of Texas at Austin in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, studying Bilingual/Bicultural Education. She received her BA in International Relations and Non-Governmental Organizations & Social Change from the University of Southern California and earned her Master's in Education from the University of Notre Dame. Originally from Chicago, Angela has taught in bilingual and monolingual elementary, high school, and undergraduate classroom settings in Texas and California. Her research interests include the development of the bilingual/bicultural identities of K-6 students and teachers in the United States and the connection between care and activism in the bilingual classroom. The daughter of immigrants from Colombia and the Philippines, Angela is committed to embracing a human-centered, anti-racist liberatory lens in her scholarship.
