Dayeon Choi is a doctoral student in the Program in Higher Education Leadership and Policy at The University of Texas at Austin. Her research interests focus on equity-based admissions policies, the intersection between high schools and higher education, and student achievement. More specifically, she is interested in how admissions policies and college-access programs, particularly dual enrollment in community colleges, shape students access to and pathways through higher education. Currently, she works as a Graduate Research Assistant with Dr. Lauren Schudde.
Dayeon received an M.A. in English Education from Korea University, where she also earned a public school teacher license in high school English, and dual B.A. degrees in Child Welfare and English Language & Literature from Sookmyung Womens University. Before coming to UT Austin, she worked as a Senior Admissions Officer and Researcher at Korea University, where she evaluated undergraduate applications and conducted research on admissions policies and student outcomes. As a co-investigator, she also conducted two consecutive years of research on the impact of private education on freshmen at KU, examining students reliance on private education and the factors driving their participation. Her experiences working directly with students, schools, and admissions data strengthened her interest in understanding how institutional policies can expand equitable access to higher education and support students long-term success. She also worked as a researcher at the Korean Council for University Education, contributing to higher education policy research projects. Building on these experiences,she hopes to conduct policy-relevant research that bridges research and practice to improve college access and student success.
