Eliel Ehimare is a doctoral student in the Education Policy and Planning program. His present research interests include examining the existence of security, privacy, and artificial intelligence policies in K-12 environments as well as their broader impact on school-aged children. He is also interested in studying the connections between participation in extracurricular athletics and student outcomes for underprivileged youth.
Before arriving at UT Austin, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in accounting and Master of Science in cybersecurity at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. While there, he earned All-Conference and Academic All-America honors as a three-year starter on the UNLV Rebels football team. After graduation, Eliel worked as a governance, risk and compliance, or GRC analyst, demystifying and translating technical policies and risk frameworks into clear, accessible guidance for diverse audiences. There, Eliel had the privilege of working with Lisa Flynn, doctoral candidate at the University of Oulu, and Matthew Gordin, lead automation engineer at Red Panda Systems, on Clark County's Acceptable AI Use Policy, and facilitated the workshop that culminated in the National Institute of Standards and Technology's, or NIST SP 1332. Additionally, he competed on "Team AI" during the John Henry Human vs. AI Competition at DEF CON 32 in 2024. Concurrently, he spent three years as the head of women's soccer at CF10 Houston FC, a local youth soccer club in his hometown of Katy, Texas. Together, these experiences deepened his commitment to understanding the complex relationship today's youth have with generative AI and pervasive agentic systems.
At the University of Texas, Eliel aims to continue bridging gaps between technology stakeholders and community members, as well as address the important questions in education policy surrounding tech ethics, digital literacy and algorithmic accountability.
