Elizabeth (Etta) Tramonti, a proud member of the Cherokee Nation, is a doctoral student in the Higher Education Leadership and Policy program. Analyzing data integrity and policy design, Etta examines issues affecting Native Americans in higher education, using these mechanisms in tandem to examine how to address systemic inequalities through accountability and compliance. She is especially interested in tribal data sovereignty, Indigenous identity fraud, and the impact of the 1990 Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA).
Etta graduated with an M.Ed. in Higher Education from Providence College in 2026. During this time, Etta also worked in the Office of the Registrar where she regularly interpreted federal and institutional regulations for diverse stakeholders. She also served as a founding member of the Registrar Internal Compliance Committee. This group worked to bridge gaps between best practices and institutional procedures. Etta has years of practical research experience as well. Her most recent independent study, Higher Education Policy Writing, required her to assess the implementation of Titles VI and IX at NCAA Division I schools to determine campus-wide remediation strategies. Building on this analysis, she synthesized both laws into one institutional policy and created Mandatory Reporting training materials.
When shes not working to improve higher education for the next generation, you can find her reconnecting with her Cherokee heritage by learning tsalagi gawonihisdi (the language) or piecing together her first tear dress.
