Heather Choate (she/her) is a current doctoral student in the Program in Higher Education Leadership and Policy at The University of Texas at Austin. Heather also works full-time at the McCombs School of Business at UT Austin as an Academic Resource Manager. She works with the academic departments and program offices to create the course schedule and coordinate academic reporting for school leadership.
Heather's primary research interest is staff retention at four-year, public higher education institutions with a focus on the support institutions should provide to staff to reduce attrition that negatively impacts the student journey. Additionally, she is interested in how higher education staff utilize staff tuition benefits and the effect on staff retention.
Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Heather holds a B.S. in Applied Learning and Development and an M.Ed. in Higher Education Leadership and Policy from the College of Education at UT Austin. Heather has served as a UT Staff Council Representative for District 150, and she is now a committee chair in the McCombs Staff Advisory Council bringing external info sessions and resources to staff in the business school. She recently received the Staff Excellence Award for Outstanding Service to McCombs Constituents in April 2026 for her optimization of the course scheduling process.
