Jazzkia M. Jones is a current doctoral student in the Program for Higher Education Leadership and Policy (PHELP) in the College of Education at The University of Texas at Austin. As a native of Dallas, Texas, graduate of Lancaster Independent School Districts public schools, and first-generation student, Jazzkia has a deep connection to educational policy, access, and identity development for systemically excluded individuals. She currently works as a graduate research assistant under Dr. LaShawn Faith Washington, focusing on the intersections of identity and higher education. Specifically, Jazzkias research interests include examining the cultural resources, knowledge, and social support Black women draw upon to develop their leadership identities, as well as how these resources shape their leadership development beyond traditional institutional structures.
Jazzkia received her Bachelor of Arts in English from DePauw University and her Master of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to attending The University of Texas at Austin, Jazzkia worked as the director for the Office of Institutional Engagement at Georgia Southern University. Her role particularly focused on employee education, engagement, development, and institutional data implementation. She also worked across several special projects within the university presidents division, including the university strategic plan and consolidation efforts. Jazzkia also has professional experience in educational nonprofits, as she spent two years as the Senior Associate for College Partnerships, where she managed relationships across more than 184 colleges and universities.
In her personal time, Jazzkia is an avid runner, volunteer, and newfound angler. She previously served as a member of the Humane Society for Greater Savannah Board of Directors and is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
