Juan Gonzalez is a native of Stockton, California, and a current doctoral student in the Higher Education Leadership and Policy program at The University of Texas at Austin. He is currently a graduate research assistant for Project MALES. Juan is also a Fulbright Alumni Ambassador and board member for Fulbright Latinx. His research interests include study abroad and international exchange programs, Black and Latinx men in higher education and migration stories.
Prior to attending The University of Texas at Austin, he was in Washington D.C. at Life Pieces to Masterpieces as the Assistant Director of Programs and Education. The organization focuses on youth mentoring for Black and Brown boys and young men from disadvantaged neighborhoods in the city. Juan was a Fulbright grantee, completing an English Teaching Assistantship in Argentina (2022). He is also a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, working as an English Literacy Educator in the South Pacific nation of Samoa (2018-20). Additionally, he worked as a Residence Director and DEI Coordinator during a Semester at Sea voyage. Juan also worked at California State University, Long Beach, in housing & residential life and new student orientation.
Juan earned an Associate of Arts in social sciences from San Joaquin Delta College, and both a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and a Master of Science in counseling, student development in higher education from California State University, Long Beach.
