Melissa Chavarria (she/her) is a doctoral student in the Program in Higher Education Leadership and Policy at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research interests are around first-generation student experiences in early college programs and how community colleges can support students ability to navigate higher education institutions (navigational capital). She is a Graduate Research Assistant for Dr. Lauren Schudde and will be working on a follow up study of the dual enrollment equity pathways (DEEP) framework. She was awarded the College of Education Equity Fellowship to continue exploring how to build equitable higher education practices and frameworks for first-generation students.
She completed her BA in Political Science and Sociology at St. Edwards University, and she obtained her Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Before coming to UT, she was a Research Associate at American Institutes for Research (AIR). While at AIR, Melissa took part in qualitative research projects that focused on early college programs, college transferability, and socio-emotional learning.
