Tyra Timm is a doctoral student in the Education Policy and Planning Program (EPP) at the University of Texas at Austin. Tyra's research interests are largely shaped by her experiences growing up in South Africa and then pursuing degrees in higher education in the United States of America. She is interested in understanding how race, gender and socioeconomic disparities affect educational outcomes in K-12 education, and exploring the ways that social identity affects student's perceptions of their future. She hopes to utilize research to promote student's social identities and their diverse backgrounds as a strength to leverage their educational success.
She holds a B.A. in Psychology from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX and an M.S. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX. Prior to coming to UT, she worked at the Kansas University Center on Developmental Disabilities (KUCDD) as a Research Project Coordinator. During her time at KUCDD, she provided support to research projects implementing an evidence-based intervention that promotes self-determination, in both school and community-based settings.
