Affirmative Action and the Supreme Court
Featuring Associate Professor of Higher Education and Public Policy Dr. Stella M. Flores, this New York University-sponsored event will explore the upcoming Supreme Court lawsuits against the admissions practices of Harvard and the University of North Carolina. These lawsuits are brought forward by the nonprofit organization, Students for Fair Admissions and seek to ban the consideration of race in college admissions, arguing that current practices discriminate against Asian Americans and violate federal law by using “race-conscious” admissions practices.
Register to hear from Dr. Flores and Assistant Professor Mike Hoa Nguyen, New York University, as they bring their research expertise and experience composing and supporting amicus briefs to the Supreme Court in this case as well as the Fisher v. University of Texas case in 2015. Our conversation will delineate the issues in these new cases and explore possible outcomes and strategies going forward. Particular attention will be given to these issues for Asian Americans.
