Drawing on findings from her book, Eve Ewing, assistant professor at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration, will share the story of Chicago’s 2013 mass ublic school closures. The largest of such closures in the nation’s history, and the role of race and history in this policy decision. She will present lessons about the history, segregation, racism, and the future of America’s public schools, followed by a Q&A.

Ewing is an education sociologist and writer from Chicago. She is the author of the poetry collection “1919” and the nonfiction work “Ghosts in the Schoolyard: Racism and School Closings on Chicago’s South Side.” She currently writes the “Champions” series for Marvel Comics and previously wrote the acclaimed “Ironheart” series, as well as other projects.
