Jeffrey Colburn is an assistant professor of practice in the University of Texas Physical Education Teacher Education program. Colburn taught elementary physical education in Massachusetts for 21 years where he received numerous recognitions for his teaching including most recently being named Massachusetts Elementary Physical Education teacher of the year (2016), the Dr. Catherine Comeau Distinguished Alumni Award from Bridgewater State University (2015) and the Massachusetts State Universities President's Award for Teaching Excellence (2014).
Colburn has a love of technology and its power to improve teaching and learning in physical education. He and his wife run a physical education program called Everyday PE which has successfully influenced many children in their pursuit of an active lifestyle in Massachusetts. His current research is focused on the professional learning of physical education teachers from their initial university learning into and through their inservice teaching careers. Specifically, Colburn investigates an andragogical application of Japanese Lesson Study for preservice and inservice physical education teachers.
