COE alumna named Dean of Texas State Senate

College of Education alumna Judith Zaffirini (B.S. ’67, M.A. ’70 and Ph.D. ‘78) has been elected the first-ever female Dean of the Texas State Senate. Zaffirini, a Democrat who has served Texas’ 21st district since 1986, earned her bachelor’s degree in Secondary School Teachers and her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from COE. She went on to earn her Ph.D. in Journalism from the Moody College of Communication. Zaffirini is one of only 24 women to ever hold a seat in the state senate and the first to be named dean.
