Daniel Dawer, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy, recently had his article, “Control+Alt+Delete: Authoritarian Educational Leadership and the State Takeover of Houston ISD,” accepted for publication in Educational Administration Quarterly. Co-authored with Meredith Wronowski, the article examines how tactics of control, manipulation and removal were used to enforce obedience, manufacture an alternative reality and suppress dissent during the state takeover of Houston ISD. The findings are based on a three-year qualitative case study involving 147 interviews and analyses of meetings, events and policy documents.
