Elaine Stokes is a current M.Ed. Education Policy and Planning student from Sugar Land, Texas. She received a B.S. from the College of Engineering at Texas A&M before becoming a high school math teacher in Austin ISD. Her time as a teacher inspired her to study education policy to improve access to an equitable education for everyone regardless of their race, sex, gender or sexual identity, or citizenship status. As a Master's student at UT, she volunteered with the Texas Prison Education Initiative. This experience caused her to change her focus from Education to Criminal Justice. She is now working in Juvenile Justice as a policy analyst at the Texas State House of Representatives. She plans to complete her Master's of Education this year and is excited to start her Ph.D. in Public Policy at UT's LBJ school this fall.
