Karina Méndez Pérez
Karina Is a doctoral student in the STEM Education program at the University of Texas at Austin. She has a B.S. in Neuroscience and a minor in teaching from Trinity University. During her time at Trinity University, she was able to observe and teach at different schools in the greater San Antonio area. From these experiences, Karina became interested in how multilingual students are taught science and developing their understanding of the language of science. Her research interests are translanguaging in science education, social justice-centered elementary science teaching, and the incorporation of Latinx and indigenous ways of knowing about the natural world in science education.
