Lauren is a doctoral student at the University of Texas in the Educational Leadership and Policy Department. Her research interest exists in the intersection of education and family policy. She seeks to critically examine school choice in early childhood education through an equity lens, cross-racial parent-teacher relationships, and how parents’ experiences shape their perceptions of school. She is currently exploring how families navigate kindergarten school entry and how their experiences are shaped by their sociocultural contexts.

Lauren completed her B.S. in Human Sciences with an emphasis on human development, family studies, and education at Texas Tech University. During her time at Texas Tech, Lauren was involved in Texas higher education policy as she served as the Student Representative to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Most recently, Lauren worked as a kindergarten teacher in Metro Nashville and earned a M.Ed. from Lipscomb University. She continues to support her East Nashville school community by serving on the board of directors for two Nashville non-profits working to provide high-quality early education, literacy support, and family education.
