Ever since Mary Alvírez was a young child, she wanted to be a teacher, and that is what she did. She became an elementary school classroom teacher, a position in which she proudly served in the Seguin ISD, San Marcos CISD, and Austin ISD for a cumulative total of 15 years. Now in her 42nd year in public education, Alvírez has served in both campus and district-level administrative positions, including middle school assistant principal, elementary school principal, director of elementary schools, and her current position of elementary executive director in the Austin ISD Office of School Leadership. In this role, she works collaboratively with the elementary principals she directly supervises to build their instructional leadership capacity, improve teacher practice at their campuses, and yield positive learning outcomes for all students.

Alvírez earned both her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and her master’s degree in educational administration from Southwest Texas State University (Texas State University). As a native Austinite, she is proud to now be enrolled and engaged in the Cooperative Superintendency Program at The University of Texas at Austin.
