Megan Vasquez (she/her) is a second-year master's student in the Educational Policy and Planning program at the University of Texas at Austin, where she also earned her Bachelor of Science in Applied Movement Science with a minor in Curriculum and Instruction.
A fifteen-year veteran educator and proud Austin native, Megan has dedicated her career to serving students and families in the community she calls home. Megan was named the Austin ISD and Region 13 Elementary Teacher of the Year in recognition of her leadership, advocacy, and impact on students and school communities. She was also recently recognized with the 2026 H-E-B Excellence in Education Leadership Award.
Beyond her teaching, Megan has been an active union organizer and education advocate. She currently serves on the executive board of Education Austin, Local 2048, the local union representing Austin ISD employees. She has advocated at the district and state levels to elevate educators' voices in policymaking, including testifying before the Texas Legislature and advocating for policies that improve educator compensation, funding formulas, working conditions, and public participation in school governance.
Megan was selected as a Summer 2026 Graduate Archer Fellow, where she interned in Washington, D.C., with the Democratic Women's Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Her research and career interests center on the impacts of school closures, teacher retention, school finance, and improving the public education system through people-centered policymaking.
At the heart of Megan's work is an unwavering belief in the power of public education to create opportunities for students and build a stronger collective future for all. She strives to lead with joy and hope, all while bringing her teacher voice to the table.
