Michael Arreola is the proud husband of Julie Shelton-Arreola, Reading/Language Arts teacher at Austin Academy, and father of Joel (13), Isabella (12), and Jack (6).

His journey in public service and his dedication to educational equity stem from a profound desire to help those in need within the community. Growing up in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, Texas, he attended Dallas ISD schools from K-12, an experience that ignited his passion for creating positive change in the education system.

Despite facing challenges, Mr. Arreola's personal journey as a student has taught him the value of perseverance and the importance of ensuring that every student receives the support they need to succeed. This led him to embrace a career in education, where he sought to be a positive influence on the lives of young individuals.

Throughout his years as an educator, Mr. Arreola had the privilege of serving in various leadership roles, including as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal of Early College High School (ECHS) from 2013 to 2017. During this time, ECHS achieved the remarkable distinction of being recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire school community.

Mr. Arreola is deeply committed to providing a high-quality education for all students, regardless of their backgrounds. He takes great pride in the achievements of the schools he has been part of, where they consistently earned the highest ratings from the Texas Education Agency each year. These accomplishments were the result of the collaborative efforts of the entire staff and the students' hard work.

Moreover, Mr. Arreola believes in the importance of building strong connections with parents and families. Encouraging parental involvement in the Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) has been a priority for him, as he recognizes the significant impact of family support on a student's educational journey.

In 2019, Mr. Arreola assumed leadership at North Garland High School (NGHS), where he faced unique challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. He is immensely grateful for the resilience and dedication shown by the students, staff, and families during these trying times. Under his guidance, NGHS witnessed increased student achievement, and the school earned an A rating from the Texas Education Agency for the 2021-2022 school year, an achievement he attributes to the collective effort of the entire school community.

Mr. Arreola served as the Director of Secondary Math and Science for Garland ISD from 2022 to December of 2023. He is humbled by the progress made by students in the Algebra I and Biology I End of Course assessments in those two years, recognizing that it is a testament to the dedication of the students and the efforts of the educators.

He currently serves as the Executive Director of Leadership in Garland ISD.

Throughout his career, Mr. Michael Arreola's focus has always been on the students and the community he serves. He remains humbled by the opportunities to make a positive impact and is committed to continuing his efforts in educational equity and public service, guided by the belief that together, meaningful change is possible.
