Newton is the principal of Anderson High School, the only International Baccalaureate High School in Austin ISD, and ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the No. 137 high schools in Texas. She was the principal of Murchison Middle School, the feeder school for Anderson High School, from 2018-22. She began her leadership career as assistant principal at Menchaca Elementary School, serving their community for four years. Before working in leadership positions, Newton was a teacher in Austin ISD, Highland Park ISD and Houston ISD.

It has been the greatest joy of Newton’s life to watch the transformative changes that can happen on a campus when shared leadership is actively in place. She believes strongly in building leadership capacity, establishing a growth mindset and helping students develop academically, socially and emotionally.

Newton works with the staff to create strong academic and elective programming on campus so that all students have the opportunity to graduate college, career and life ready. Through the rigorous academic content at Anderson High School, the IB and AP coursework, On Ramps and dual credit classes, as well as the T STEM programming, Newton aims to lead her staff in the development of inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. Newton has served as the Anderson Vertical Team Leader, AAPSA Treasurer, and has been a participant in Raise Your Hand Texas Harvard Institute and PELP Institute.

Newton believes that the establishment of a positive climate and culture is vitally important in creating a safe learning environment. She has done this through strong collaboration with the school community and leadership with staff in developing strong relationships with students.

Newton is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, with both undergraduate and graduate degrees in educational leadership. She enjoys spending time with her family and children, exercising on Town Lake, traveling and reading extensively when she has the opportunity.
