Naomi L. Semb-Lovejoy is currently a doctoral student in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy pursuing her Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership at The University of Texas at Austin. As a first-generation, low socio-economic status student, and Wisconsin native she earned her Bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin Green-Bay and earned her Masters degree (M.S.) in College Student Personnel Administration from the University of Central Missouri. Naomi is interested in researching bereavement policies for college aged students at four-year institutions and how students utilize institutional policies while navigating grief.
Supporting students through crisis and grief has always been a part of Naomis professional journey. Naomi has worked at grief camps for children that are hosted at institutions, attended the annual conference for the Association for Death Education and Counseling, and published an article on grief in higher education, pushing institutions to think critically about their bereavement policies, or lack thereof.
Outside of research interests, Naomi has supported residents and their guests within University Housing & Dining as a full-time employee at The University of Texas at Austin. Naomi served as a Complex Coordinator for undergraduate residence halls and then transitioned to the Assistant Director for Residence Life, specifically overseeing apartment communities. On top of this, Naomi is responsible for planning and executing Mooov-in for all 10,000 residents that live within University Housing & Dining. In her free time, Naomi enjoys being with her family and dogs and taking vacations any chance they get.
