Temesghen Asmerom
Temesghen Asmerom started his teaching career in public education after many years of working as a Research Assistant and Water Chemist. It was during his first teaching assignment in an Improvement Required (IR) campus that he witnessed the negative impact of chronic poverty on a community and the value of public education in restoring peoples hopes and dreams for a better future. After teaching for a few years, he was encouraged to pursue a graduate study in school leadership and policy development. Following graduate school, he served as an assistant principal at multiple campuses before being promoted to a principal position at Emmett J. Conrad High School within the Dallas ISD. Conrad High School serves students from over 30 different countries who speak more than 40 different languages and dialects at any given time. Over 98% of the students are eligible for a free and reduced lunch. Under Temesghens leadership, Conrad High School increased its enrollment, had the highest increase in School Effectiveness Index (SEI) and had the highest retention of H-Tech students with over 96% of the seniors graduating with their associates degree and high school diplomas. Conrad became home to five distinguished NAF academies and one of the early campuses to pilot Career Institute. In four years, the schools scholarship award grew from $6.3 million to over $15 million. The school has been rated as a B (Breakthrough) campus for the last three years, has earned multiple distinctions and has significantly increased opportunities for students to enroll in advance placement course.
Temesghen has been recognized as a Master Principal by Dallas ISD for his leadership. After four years, he was promoted to an Executive Director position to lead four high schools and five middle schools. He has received multiple accolades including Principal of the Year for Northwest network, finalist in the districts Principal of the Year run, Mentor Principal and he has served on the Superintendents Advisory Group.
