Tiffany N. Hughes is a doctoral student in the Program for Higher Education Leadership in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at The University of Texas at Austin. Before becoming a Longhorn, she earned an M.Ed. in Counselor Education with an emphasis in Student Affairs from Clemson University.
After discovering her passion for serving students, Tiffany took on varying experiences as a higher education practitioner, including academic advising, admissions, multicultural programming, and student affairs. She has had the pleasure of working at multiple institution types including R1 institutions, a liberal arts college, and even a medical school.
Tiffany is a proud HBCU Alumna, having earned her B.A. in English from Howard University. Her affirming undergraduate experience often juxtaposes against those of the students of color that she works with at predominantly/historically white institutions of higher education. As such, she makes it a point to engage in Diversity & Inclusion work at each institution she serves in an effort to create more equitable environments for her students. These professional experiences have also informed her research interests which include elevating the narratives of students on the margins and examining and implementing practices that cultivate diverse, equitable, and inclusive higher education environments for underrepresented and minoritized populations.
