Join the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education (KHE) for its 44th Annual Alderson Lecture and Awards Ceremony. Honoring the late C.J. (Shorty) and Mary Buice Alderson, this annual celebration welcomes prominent leaders in the field of Kinesiology and Health Education to lead the conversation around current industry trends and challenges.

This year’s keynote presenter is Marlene Dixon, professor and department head of Kinesiology and Sport Management at Texas A&M University. Her talk is titled, “What Good is Sport? What Sport is Good? Constructing Sport Experiences that Matter.”

The awards ceremony, recognizing outstanding students and exceptional faculty for their significant contributions, will follow.

Light refreshments will be provided and no registration is required. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

About the Speaker

Marlene

Marlene Dixon is a distinguished scholar and leader in sport management and serves as professor and department head of Kinesiology & Sport Management at Texas A&M University.

She earned her doctorate in Sport Management and her master’s degree in Education in Sport Administration from The University of Texas at Austin.

Dixon’s research has shaped the understanding of sport’s potential to drive positive societal outcomes. Her international work, particularly in Kenya, has examined how the design and management of sport programs can enhance the lives of individuals, families and communities.

She is internationally recognized as a research fellow of both the North American Society for Sport Management and the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand.
