Aquasia Shaw Ph.D. is an assistant professor of istruction in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at the University of Texas at Austin. Shaw received a Ph.D. in Kinesiology from the University of Houston, an M.Ed. in Sport and Recreation Management from the University of Arkansas and a B.A. in Communications & Sociology from the University at Albany. Her doctoral dissertation was a psychosocial analysis of the Black female athlete experience during the height of COVID and BLM titled "2020 Vision: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of the Lived Experiences of Black Female Athletes."

Shaw's research focuses on sociology of sport and cultural studies, sport management and diversity, inclusion and social justice. She teaches in the areas of Sport Management and Physical Culture and Sport Studies, including classes in mass media and public relations in sport and the sociological, philosophical and ethical aspects of sport and physical activity. Shaw has published in the Sociology of Sport Journal and the Physical Educator and has presented work at the International Conference on the Health Risks of Youth, the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation, the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport and the North American Society for Sport Management.

Shaw engages her students through experiential learning, with practical applications through hands-on experiences and reflection, where they are better able to connect theories and knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world scenarios.
