Alejos Salazar began his career in education in 1993 at South Texas ISD, in Mercedes, Texas as a special education paraprofessional and bus driver. He attended classes in the evening until he earned his bachelor’s degree in government from The University of Texas at Brownsville in 1999. In the Spring of 2000, he took a position as a permanent substitute teacher at Santa Maria ISD and began working towards his teaching certificate through an alternative certification program. In 2004 he earned his Master of Education degree in educational administration from The University of Texas Pan American and shortly thereafter began his career as a school administrator. Salazar went on to pursue his superintendent certification from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, earning his superintendent certificate in 2019.

While Salazar currently serves as a superintendent, he has served as a school principal, an assistant principal, a teacher, a coach and as previously mentioned as a paraprofessional, and a bus driver. Through the various phases of his career, Salazar has gained an array of experiences and knowledge that he utilizes to better serve his school community.
