David J. Terrazas is a Mexican-American doctoral student at the University of Texas at Austin. Due to the growing Latino population in the US and the wide achievement gap between Latino/a’s and other marginalized populations, David aims to explore programs that may support individual development as well as long-term change with regard to social inequality. His research interests involve examining Sport for Development (SFD) programs and positive experiential learning opportunities for minority youth at the intersection of athletics, cultural identity and academics within the educational system. Before coming to UT, David worked as an NCAA Graduate Assistant (GA) where he held a student athletic board appointment. He also has experience working in the non-profit sector, helping underserved and bilingual youth and their families gain access to educational and recreational resources, while enhancing and developing resilience through community sport development initiatives.
