Geneva’s experience as a graduate of Texas public schools led her to return to Texas in 2018 after working as a middle school, mostly math, teacher in Brooklyn, New York for almost twenty years. She completed a Master’s in STEM education at the College of Ed where she became interested in how public policy decisions impact equity in Texas public schools. Geneva’s research interests include how school practices – restorative discipline, social-emotional learning, trauma-informed school practices, and community school practices – could be employed in Texas K-12 public schools to improve classroom learning and teacher job satisfaction while supporting students who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACES) or trauma caused by institutional racism.
