Genevas experience as a graduate of Texas public schools led her to return to Texas in 2018 after working as a middle school, mostly math, teacher in Brooklyn, New York for almost twenty years. She completed a Masters in STEM education at the College of Ed where she became interested in how public policy decisions impact equity in Texas public schools. Genevas research interests include how school practices restorative discipline, social-emotional learning, trauma-informed school practices, and community school practices could be employed in Texas K-12 public schools to improve classroom learning and teacher job satisfaction while supporting students who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACES) or trauma caused by institutional racism.
