SeongGyeong is a doctoral student in the Education Policy and Planning program at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on parenting and equity in education.

Research Strand 1: School-Community Partnerships for historically marginalized families
SeongGyeong’s first research strand examines school-community partnerships for historically marginalized students and families, especially immigrant populations, and school/district leaders' responses to these partnerships. Her current project explores equity-focused school-community partnerships for newcomer parents in a large urban district in the Southwestern U.S. This project, funded by the College of Education at UT Austin, was presented at the 2024 UCEA conference. Additionally, SeongGyeong has contributed to advocating for marginalized students and families through research on state- and local-level educational policies, such as classroom censorship, dual credit funding, and early college advising. Beyond her academic research, she has supported PK-20 students—primarily low-income, first-generation, and immigrant students—across various countries.

Research Strand 2: Supporting Parenting Students
SeongGyeong’s second research strand stems from her service and practice at UT Austin, where she works as a graduate research assistant supporting student parents. She provides resources through research, one-on-one support, and grant writing. As part of her initiatives, she co-developed a Lunch & Learn workshop series for graduate student parents in collaboration with the Texas Career Engagement Center at UT Austin. Her recent study investigating immigrant graduate and postdoc student parents' experiences in the U.S. was accepted for presentation at 2025 AERA.
