Call for Graduate Student Equity Fellows Applications

The College of Education (COE) Graduate Student Equity Fellowship is a prestigious award that provides a $10,000 stipend to up to five doctoral students committed to advancing educational and health equity, inclusion and social justice. This award supports emerging equity researchers and leaders whose personal cultural backgrounds, professional experiences and future goals will help to transform education and health and promote social justice.

Award Benefits

  • Access to an informal network of researchers and formal mentoring. There will be opportunities to meet with COE leadership and other faculty for mentoring and community-building.
  • $10,000 stipend.

Eligibility

  • Fellowships are available only for incoming doctoral students.
  • To apply, you must be an applicant to a full-time COE doctoral program. 
  • To receive the award, you must be admitted to a COE doctoral program as a full-time student.

Application Materials and Deadline

Applicants will submit a single PDF file containing a letter and a curriculum vitae no later than 5 p.m., March 7, 2022, via the application below. The letter should explain 

  • how the applicant’s experience and background foster an inclusive community, and
  • how they will advance equity, inclusion, and diversity in their research, teaching and/or other professional experiences.

The letter should be single-spaced and can be up to two pages long.

Application Review

Applications will be reviewed by the COE Social Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (Dr. Germine Awad, Dr. Matthew Bowers, Dr. Norma Cantu, Dr. Micheal Sandbank, Dr. Maria Franquiz, and Dr. Richard Reddick) and one community member, Michael Griffith (Executive Director, Breakthrough Central Texas).

Successful applicants will be notified by March 28, 2022, and the stipend will be provided to the Fellow in the fall of the next academic year.
